Grinding media are used for the transformation of kinetic energy into size reduction energy. Significant for the grinding efficiency are the material, the shape and the weight of grindig media. Mostly grinding media is used in ball mills.

Ceramic grinding media are used in those cases where an iron free process is required. Metallic grinding media are the mostly used in cases where traces of metal do not decerease the milling product quality.
